Indiana Jones is perhaps one of the greatest action, family aimed set of films ever produced. They’re exciting, humorous and packed full of adventure; my favourite has to be “The Last Crusade.” Indiana is in a race against time and the Nazi’s to find the Holy Grail. (If you want info on the Holy Grail, click here.) The Holy Grail was thought to bring whoever drinks from it eternal life. It’s described as the pinnacle of accent artefacts, holding great worth and wonder and links to Jesus, the last supper etc etc etc…
Anyway, I have found the Holy Grail of parenting products! No! I have found the Holy Grail of parenting products from a dad’s perspective.
Let me waste no more time in introducing the great, the fabulous, the strong, the incredible….
Ok… It’s the Stokke MyCarrier.
Isn’t it beautiful? As you may have seen, I’ve been looking at baby carriers a lot in the last month or so – in fact, I’d almost class myself as an expert by now! This one, however, is the creme de la creme and rather than describe why through humorous narrative with the potential of loosing some of the important elements, I’ll list them.
#1 Anything that makes a man feel like a man is a winner in my eyes. And this really does. From the moment you take it out the box and touch, see and smell (not so much smell) the material, you know it’s made well.
#2 The fact that Stokke describe one part of this as a ‘harness’ is brilliant. I say to the wife, “let’s pop out for a walk with the baby darling, I’ll just put on my harness.” Amazing! It really does feel like you could climb a mountain with a child on your back. I, nor Stokke, are recommending this, but that’s how you feel.It comes in 3 parts. The harness (or shoulder straps), and then 2 carrier piece attachments. 1 for the front and 1 for the back.
#3 This carrier is a 3 in 1. A lot of other carriers are purely front carriers, or back carriers whereas this covers both and allows you to carry the child facing both ways on your front. And all of this from newborn until they’re 3 years old! Incredible!
#4 The adjustments and fixings are of the highest quality. They are secure and easy to attach and 2 of them are even caribiners. I mean, could this get any better? I found that putting the harness on with 1 side of attachments attached, as if it were a backpack, was the easiest way of putting it on. You an then slide the baby/child in, leg first, and attach the opposite side. Which brings me on to my next point:
#5 It’s really easy to use. Despite what some other reviews say, I didn’t have a problem. I got it out the box and put it straight on. Once you have put your baby in a couple of times, you’ll work out what works best for you but it’s simple and more than possible to do on your own.
#6 This morning, I used the carrier for a wander and the baby fell asleep. When I returned I wanted him to stay sleeping so I just firmly held the carrier whilst leaning over, unattached the clips and fixings and lay him down – still sleeping! Daddy 1 – baby 0!
#7 I’m no lumbar expert but this really is the securest and comfortable carrier I’ve come across. The harness feels like it supports your back well, and if you tighten the straps efficiently, it is super comfy. By the very nature of how it is made, it means that it meets the “TICKS” guide to safe carrying:
Tight – the carious straps allow you to make it secure and safe very easily.
In view at all times – The baby is in the perfect position and is well ventilated (therefore well seen) due to the shape of the carrier.
Close enough to kiss – The baby is held nice and high regardless of where the back support is. There are different ‘settings’ allowing you to adjust the height of the baby according to your size.
Keep chin off chest – Er… as it says
Supported back – We’ve covered this above!
The baby needs to be nice and high so it’s closer to your centre of gravity, which will help your back out and also allow the baby to nuzzle and feel more comfy.
#8 There are a few colour options; for me though, you can’t beat black.
This carrier is ultra-sturdy and made exceptionally well. For those occasions when your trekking the fells through high winds and heavy rain, this carrier will prove a winner. It is highly comfortable due to the sensible and easy to use adjustment straps & clips as well as the added support for your back. The only consideration might be that it isn’t that small to store or travel with, but that is being incredibly nit picky!
There is no question that this carrier comes in at the high end of expensive but there is no doubt that the quality matches that high price tag. In my opinion this is the best carrier I have ever had the pleasure of using and I have used some fantastic ones as you can see if you trawl through the blog.

I cannot find a fault! And for that reason the Stokke MyCarrier receives an undisputed official Dad Network star rating of 5 / 5 and our award of recommendation.
