Sports Dads, Get Your Kids Active with Active Kids 2015

27

As you may well know from following the blog, I’m an active dad that likes sports and keeping healthy. And the one thing I can’t wait to get stuck into is getting the boy involved in sports with his old man.

I used to play squash with my dad from time to time and look back fondly. Even at 6 months old, I take the boy out for long walks at the weekend for some fresh air and to get him used to the outdoors.

I think there’s something very special about bonding over sporting activities with your children. There’s so much to learn through sport that I think it helps grow a strong relationship. We met a great dad from New Zealand in our private dads Facebook group who shares with us some of the activities he’s been up to with his 6 month old! They’ve crossed chasms and been out trekking.

Here are just some of my ideas of things I can’t wait for:

#1 To take him into the mountains for some real trekking!

#2 Watching him at his first training session with a local football club.

#3 Taking him to his first Arsenal game.

#4 Belaying for him.

#5 Seeing him waiting for me at the finish line of a race.

I am passionate about leading a healthy lifestyle for both myself and my family and that’s why I think that the Sainsbury Active Kids 2015 scheme is so good. The campaign aims to help children lead healthier, more active lifestyles. Running since 2005, the scheme is fronted some inspirational ambassadors, including Daniel Sturridge & Ellie Simmonds.

Let’s pause here for a moment and share with you the opportunity for you to win £200 worth of Sainsbury’s vouchers PLUS some signed merchandise from the ambassadors. All you have to do enter is fill out the form below.

Apparently Active Kids have raised over £150 million worth of equipment and experiences in the last few years meaning that children have had so much more opportunity to participate in sports as a result.

I think that this campaign is so important in today’s society where children are becoming less active. No wonder the England football squad is so poor…! (Come on Daniel!)

The campaign is basically collecting the vouchers and handing them in to your local school or groups.

Right, I’m off to think of some more sporting activities to get the boy involved with!
