The family tradition around the elf on the shelf has hit the UK with force. Particularly with the rise of the social media power. The concept is very simple, yet rather clever – adopt one of Santa’s scout elfs to come and sit on a shelf in your house. The idea is that the elf is Santa’s eyes and ears, keeping watch for good and naughty behaviour!
Each night the elf magically flies back to the North Pole to report to Santa on the days adventures; good or bad. The following morning the elf returns to sit nobly (and a little judgmentally) on a different shelf. Children race around looking for where the elf is each day.
It’s a lovely family activity that has captured thousands across the world. Who ever said that preying on the innocent imaginations of our children in order to manage their behaviour is wrong..? I guess this is a clever strategy that even super nanny would be proud of!
Anyway, here at The Dad Network, we found this little elf on one of our shelves. (He wasn’t adopted though… And despite the convincing costume…he isn’t really an elf…sorry to disappoint) We thought it was pretty cute and it gave us an idea. If you have any cute/funny pictures of your little ones in Christmas fancy dress or if you’ve got an elf on your shelf then send your photos in to The Dad Network.
Send them in to us either via email or social media and we’ll post our favourites on to The Dad Network Facebook page for our 1400 followers to see!
