A parents eyes can tell a thousand stories

To the fresh-faced 18-year-old girl that told my wife she could help hide her purple eye bags and her aged eye lines – Thank you dearly but she’s perfect just the way she is.

Her eyes are the eyes of a mother.

A mother of a toddler.

And the mother of a teenage boy.

The eyes of a mother that hasn’t slept properly for the past 13 years.

The eyes of a mother that gives herself wholly to her children.

The eyes of someone that has smiled. A lot.

The eyes of someone that has been pregnant seven exhausting times.

The eyes of a mother that has lost five babies.

The eyes that have cried tears of loss and heartache over those babies.

The eyes that show the frustration of living with a husband like me!

The eyes that have cried tears of laughter.

The eyes that I get lost in.

The eyes that look over her boys as they sleep at night.

The eyes of the only woman I could ever love.

The most perfect eyes I’ve ever seen. Those lines make her her.

Those lines make her her. My wife.

My wife. Their mother.

Their mother. Those lines tell a story.

Those lines tell a story. Her story.

Her story. Our story.

Our story. So thank you but I’ll be suggesting she leaves those eyes just exactly as they are.
